ERICOPOLY
Now the US Dems are grabbing power in the Netherlands too. Always about power. Power power power. LOL. ERICOPOLY
The two US parties remind me of divorcing parents fighting for custody: The Democrats are bringing the kids to the dentist and to the doctor and enforcing a bedtime. The Republicans are giving them cake and ice cream for dinner and letting them stay up all night watching TV. The Republicans are being the "popular parent" and grabbing power during a pandemic while every other country in the world is taking the pandemic seriously. ERICOPOLY
It is a failure of the CDC and ultimately the Biden Administration to make Americans wait 6 months before getting the booster. It's like they WANT Omicron to spread by preventing people from getting the booster who need it (everyone needs it). ERICOPOLY
I'm hopeful that Omicron inoculates the unvaccinated before Delta gets to them and the overall death rate will then plunge. a clue to what might be behind its superspreading powers: more virus in people’s airways, which could mean more virus in the air. They found that over the first 24 hours, Omicron multiplied about 70 times faster inside respiratory-tract tissue than the Delta variant. When they ran the same experiments with the lung tissue, they found Omicron was actually worse at infecting those cells than either Delta or the original strain of the virus that originated in Wuhan. https://www.statnews.com/2021/12/17/preliminary-laboratory-data-hint-at-what-makes-omicron-the-most-superspreading-variant-yet/
Gregmal
https://nypost.com/2021/12/26/omicron-proves-covid-is-not-just-a-red-state-problem/ Nails it. As I ve been calling out for months now, the liberal pubs like Wapo, NYT, Huffington keep hiding that they pulled this shit over the summer. It is awesome seeing them eat it now. All their vaccines and masks and they're pumping out 4x the number of cases they did a year ago! And indeed an excellent callout of Paul Krugman of the NYT. He is the PERFECT liberal. Elitist, academic, with a great "paper" resume. But when you look at all his academic bullshit and what its translated to in the real world....hes a total fuckin moron. A few of the highlights include... his call that the internet will be as relevant as a fax machine, stated in 2004! Bitcoin is a bigger bubble than housing, stated in 2013 and again in 2017...neither were bubbles then, not even close. The financial markets would never recover from Donald Trump...stated on the night of 2016 election when futures were down 800 points. When guys like Carl Icahn were buying like mad. Its a great time to sit back and enjoy everything that's taking place and what its implications are for the future. Biden winning basically just put most libs in a put up or shut up situation, and its playing out in spectacular fashion. Now you even have morons like Kamala Harris saying democracy is a threat to America LOL!
Gregmal
https://nypost.com/2021/12/28/gop-slams-biden-for-saying-no-federal-solution-to-covid/ It just keeps getting better LOL. If I had to draw up a theoretical situation where things unfolded and mass damage was done to the Democratic Party, I still couldn't have foreseen this sort of incompetence. Biden and the left spent the ENTIRE campaign claiming Trump was responsible for covid. It was likely what won them the election. Now? Its not the federal governments fault! While, AT THE SAME TIME, issuing federal mandates! Glorious.
backtothebeach
Just one-fifth of so called "Covid hospitalizations" in the UK are true cases, 80% of admissions are incidental, for reasons unrelated to Covid. This was similar in South Africa a few weeks before: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/12/28/covid-hospital-data-should-treated-caution-many-patients-admitted/ SARS-CoV-2 spike T cell responses induced upon vaccination or infection remain robust against Omicron (South African study) https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.12.26.21268380v1

meiroy
London peaked. So, in the USA it's over by the end of Feb? Maybe by March in areas with less vaccination? Tight labor market. Demand shoots up. Fed starts QT earlier? After awhile recession begins and they QE again... Edited January 8, 2022 by meiroy
Gregmal
So nice to see Bettman and the NHL basically tell Quebec/Canada to fuck off with the abusive restrictions or lose both the draft and the right to home games LOL. Bout time. Those assholes have beyond abused their power.

Gregmal
Yea I think the key to getting back to normal is not turning this into a spectacle every time a few cases pop up. Theres enough places that have been living totally normal since summer 2020, even without vaccines, that we can conclude this is just as much mental as anything else and the sooner we stop scaring people with the hysteria the sooner it will all be over for everyone. maplevalue
Any views of the Shanghai lockdown? Twitter mostly reflects a somewhat extreme view that lockdowns -> civil unrest -> end of CCP, which seems a bit unlikely. Seems like COVID-zero will be on the way out soon as Omicron proves to be too infectious. Particularly it seems that there are very few severe cases and the lockdown is just a reflection of the overly strict policy of quarantining all positive cases at hospitals.
