'Yes, It Was a Coup. Here’s Why.'

Recommended Posts

Wasn't it an "attempted" coup since it has not been successful?

However, it would seem that the attempt is not over with the FBI warning that "ARMED protests" are planned for the US Capitol and all 50 state capitols ahead of the inauguration - and at this time the head of Homeland Security quits.

Does everyone here condemn this? Or do some support it?

We are not done, yet. The slow coup is still ongoing.

Possibly the scariest part is that some of the violent insurrectionists believe Trump abandoned them and they have turned on Trump, which means Trump has lost control of them, but they haven't necessarily given up on Civil War or domestic terrorism in the near future. That probably explains Mike Pence's pretending to get along with Trump today after almost learning the true meaning of the expression Everything Trump Touches Dies. Trump, Pence and others may all now realize that the best hope to survive on multiple levels is to pretend everything is fine for the time being.

For it be a coup, there would need to be an attempt to violently seize power.

Do you have words Liberty, do you know how to use them?  You just seem to post links.  Why was it a coup?  Was the guy sitting with his feet up on Pelosi's desk trying to seize power, I don't think so.  Was there a concerted effort to actually take over?  Did anyone even have a gun?  I just saw the one trumper got executed.

If you are going to make some crazy accusation at least have something to back it up.

You guys need to take a step back and look at what's going on.  Anyone who questions the election is being labeled a domestic terrorist.  I'm all for calling antifa, qanon, etc terrorist organizations; but millions of normal Americans?

Trump is being compared to Hitler, Ted Cruz compared to Joseph Goebels, and Trump's followers are all nazi's.  Really?  Who is censoring who?  Who is being targeted by the media?  Who is calling for "thought cleansing" and "re-education"?  That's the kind of crap they do in China, and you're going to talk to me about normalization?

Try really hard to put your hate for the orange man aside for a second and take a look at what's going on.  The President of the United States is being censored. That should be extremely disturbing.  Normalization?  The jews were desensitized by the same normalization.  I believe it was a Daniel Kahneman story, but I may be mis-attributing the source.  Anyways, he says his family got out of Nazi Germany because they saw the warning signs and correctly interpreted them while other members of his own family rationalized the situation and said things would soon go back to normal.  They all perished.

That smarter you are the harder it is to convince you that you've been fooled.

LOL anyone who thinks this was a coup attempt is a complete moron. 99.9% of people who went down to the Capitol were there for a Trump Rally. I talked to a few individuals I know who went. They are pretty normal people who are ardent Republicans. Nothing exotic or radical about them. They said they went down there and when they went in the Capitol the police let them in. They did say that they saw two vans pull up near them and a bunch of guys jumped out and started making trouble.

99.9% of Trump supporters do not support an overthrow of the govt. They aren't "domestic terrorists" and they aren't "cult" followers any more than the average liberal who voted for Biden.

You think a board of value investors would be able to look past the noise.

The story is as follows.

We have two political parties with an ever widening margin in philosophy and political policy.

As a result anger and tensions are high on both sides.

You have extreme trouble makers which accounts for probably less than 5% of each party makeup.

Boil it down even further and you have two minority groups which set the precedent for the majority because they are the most "shocking".

One which wants to leave America and the fundamental alone. And another which wants to fundamentally change the nation, laws, and the Constitution.

This is all fueled by the media and tech companies who pump the 24hr news cycle.

I think it's ironic that Twitter has banned the sitting President of the United States, yet allows the Ayatollah to tweet as he pleases  ;D Peak fucking irony imo.

Yea well look at a lot of what we have here, on a value investor board. Did you see the new hydra! thread, LOL. 0/147 over the past 4 years but that will never stop them. Mr. Einhorn will eventually "nail" the tech bubble too....just enjoy the entertainment/amusement they provide along the way. Not much more you can do.

Castanza, the piece that you are missing in your comments is Trump; the (orange :-) elephant in the room. What is going on right now is not two parties duking it out. It is Trump duking it our with both Republicans and Democrats.

Trump has been trying to overturn the election since it happened. He is lying. He is breaking laws. And his lies and actions are now directly resulting in American’s dying.

And Trump is just getting started.

So both Republicans and Democrats have collectively decided that Trump is breaking the law and needs to be held accountable for his actions. He is also a clear and present danger (as we saw last week) and it is likely more American’s will die (or be put in harms way) if Trump is not stopped (as he is unable to stop himself).

Actions have consequences. Trump is not above the law; that is what this is all about.

PS: is there a political side to all this? Of course; but don’t let that distract you from what is really going on here. Trump is a danger to the country and this danger needs to be addressed.

PS2: i think people are banned on Twitter when they break Twitter rules. Trump repeatedly broke Twitter rules. What has the Ayatollah Tweeted (on Twitter) that you feel deserves a ban? Or do you feel Twitter should not grand an account to the Ayatollah because?

Do you guys always bring your guns and pipe bombs to Donny Stump's rallies?

At least ten people were arrested during the evening and into Wednesday morning, several on weapons charges.[14]

Capitol Police respond to a report of a possible explosive device at the Republican National Committee Headquarters, which is later identified as a pipe bomb. Shortly afterwards, a second pipe bomb is found at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee.[19][18] Buildings next to these headquarters are evacuated.[20]

A police sweep of the area identifies a vehicle which held one handgun, an M4 Carbine assault rifle with loaded magazine, and components for 11 Molotov cocktails with homemade napalm. Around 6:30 p.m, the driver was apprehended carrying two unregistered handguns as he returned to the vehicle. He is not suspected of planting the pipe bombs.[20][21]

As soon as they hit the fence line, the fight was on. Violent confrontations from the start. They came with riot helmets, gas masks, shields, pepper spray, fireworks, climbing gear — climbing gear! — explosives, metal pipes, baseball bats. I have never seen anything like it in 30 years of events in Washington.

— Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund[18]

The FBI sends out a bulletin advising law enforcement agencies to be cautious when arresting suspects involved in the storming, especially of those who were spotted wearing body armor or "other armament" during the incident.[44]

Half the people arrested were charged with "violent entry"

Cleveland Grover Meredith was charged with threatening Pelosi after driving to D.C. from Colorado. He missed the riot after experiencing troubles with his truck and trailer, according to an FBI arrest complaint. Meredith arrived Thursday and was later arrested at a Holiday Inn.

Officers found a Glock 19, a 9mm pistol, a Tavor X95 rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his truck and trailer.

In the complaint, the FBI said Meredith had texted a relative saying he was “thinking about heading over to Pelosi's (expletive) speech and putting a bullet in her noggin on Live TV,” with a purple devil emoji.

In a later text conversation about Pelosi, the complaint said, Meredith wrote, “Dead Bitch Walking. I predict that within 12 days, many in our country will die.”

But he added, "LOL, jus havin fun."

As Christopher Michael Alberts of Maryland was being escorted away from the Capitol on Wednesday, a Metro Police officer noticed a bulge on Alberts' hip, a complaint stated. A closer inspection revealed two separate holsters, one with a 9 mm weapon with a single round in the chamber and a fully loaded 12-round magazine and the other with a second fully loaded 12-round magazine. Alberts also was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a backpack with a gas mask, pocketknife and an MRE.

Capitol Police found Moore parked in his white Ford Econoline 150 van near the Capitol, and Moore admitted to having a gun in his backpack on the front passenger seat.

Officers found a Ruger pistol in a holster, according to D.C. Superior Court records. The gun was loaded with six rounds, and officers recovered three more six-round magazines along with 12 loose rounds.

When authorities found Coffman's truck near the Capitol, they reported finding 11 Molotov cocktails -- Mason jars filled with flammable liquids -- in addition to guns and ammunition.

Leffingwell is accused of entering the Senate side of the Capitol. When police stopped him, the complaint says, he struck an officer in the helmet and chest.

Not to mention the photos of two more space cadets with a fistful of zip tie handcuffs. What were they going to do, link hands with the rest of the "patriots" and sing the national anthem until Congress bought into their nutjob conspiracy theory?

Now, do I think this was some well organized plan for Donny Stump to seize government? No, he's too dumb and lazy to actually do something like that effectively. But he loves causing drama and riling up the idiots who love him, and that is exactly what he did. Then those idiots went and did idiotic things like storming a congressional building as elected officials were affirming a new President, with the idea that they were somehow going to do, what? Talk some sense into Congress? Like I said, idiots.

It's like I said in an earlier post: it is a mistake to entertain reasonable arguments from unreasonable people. Trump had 4 years to prove himself a reasonable individual and failed on almost all counts. He loses.

LC respectfully, if it were a Coup attempt you would have had tens of thousands of individuals with guns and there would have been a lot of deaths. A handful of weapons charges in a group of a few thousand people is meaningless.

The 2A rally in Richmond last year had what 20k people armed with AR-15s and not a single shot was fired. Hell they even picked up their trash, and sang the National Anthem. unlike Antifa and BLM who leave everything in shambles.

If the “alt right” or whatever name you want to give them wanted to stage a coup they would have showed up with more force.

If that was a coup, then it was the first one in history to happen simply by taking selfie’s. If taking selfie’s is all it takes to bring down the US government then we have more to be worried about.

I’m not saying there won’t be any groups that try that. I’m just saying the Capitol event wasn’t it.

Ah fair enough, that is a convincing argument on second thought.

In fact based on this I do agree with your previous post.

But that .01 pct on both sides are terrible, but also sometimes entertaining:

https://www.today.com/news/alleged-capitol-rioter-arrested-after-being-identified-ex-wife-t205572

I agree that was what done was wrong and completely hypocritical.

The cynic in me likes to think politicians could use a good ass puckering every once in awhile. Too many on both sides have let their power and corruption get to their heads. Can’t help but laugh at the mental image of people like Nadler and Cocaine Mitch shitting their Depends.  ;D
