The left is eating itself

If you had told me 25 years ago that by 2020 the left would be worse on free speech than the right (and worse war mongers than the right and worse on race than the right) I wouldn't have believed you.

"Today I sent my intention to resign from The Intercept, the news outlet I co-founded in 2013 with Jeremy Scahill and Laura Poitras, as well as from its parent company First Look Media.

The final, precipitating cause is that The Intercept’s editors, in violation of my contractual right of editorial freedom, censored an article I wrote this week, refusing to publish it unless I remove all sections critical of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, the candidate vehemently supported by all New-York-based Intercept editors involved in this effort at suppression."

It's the inevitable feature of socialism/collectivism.

"The principle that the end justifies the means is in individualist ethics regarded as the denial of all morals. In collectivist ethics it becomes necessarily the supreme rule."

This is an internal squabble in a very obscure new source. Counter is here:

I have never heard about The Intercept or any of these journalists before. Can you publish whatever you want if you work for a news service ? I have no idea, but I don’t think so. Greenwald needs to find a new employer. Big deal.

At some point people need to stop with all the labels, all the bitching, all the complaining, all the name calling, all the screaming, all the ‘i know it all’, all the hate, all the time.

I tell my kids i would rather be tuned out and and happy than tuned in and angry all the time.

I used to tell my staff that the reason i am so happy all the time time is i am very good at fooling myself.

He really came to light when Snowden reached out to him which ultimately led him to win a Pulitzer. He is definitely one of the top journalists in his particular area (national security) and I've generally appreciated how he questions/disects evidence.

From a non US perspective - it seems to me that the structure of US media is that is biased one way or the other.  eg Fox News and there are plenty on the other side.  All paid journalists are required by their employer to tilt one way or another.  So why is this is a particular issue?

Yes, that’s how I see it too. That’s also one reason why I often look at US news through foreign news sources. People may laugh at this, but they should try Aljazeera once in a while.

Simply because they are not honest about it. If you state you are a biased opinion journalist on either side - good for you - exactly what I'd expect.

When you masquerade as "unbiased", just delivering the news - then it's a scam on the people. Many of these jokers don't even try and

hide their bias anymore - but tell you they are being totally objective.

Two quotes sum up the Left.

"Men rise from one ambition  to the next,  first to secure  themselves against attack, then to attack others"

Machiavelli

Then a more modern take

"The more you scream for equality, the more your unconscious is going to admire dominance."

Kinda like those folks who claim they are fair and balanced.

Or those that claim to be the "most trusted name in news."

yep. Those too.

I actually don't see how you can call yourself news if most of your content is opinion and editorial.

CNN has ceased to be a news channel a long time ago. Fox News never really claimed to be a news channel. Both are infotainment.

If Biden wins, CNN is going to have to find a way to fill all the space currently taken up by articles like "Top Doc Slams Trump's Fast Food Diet".

If Trump wins then they'll have to invest in a bigger font.  I've often wondered who sets the size of the headline on the splash-page, and if they keep a few levels in reserve in case THE BIGGEST STORY YET comes along.

I honestly don't understand this idea that CNN has something to do with news. When Jeff Zucker (reality TV producer) was put in charge in at at CNN years ago what did people expect? He ain't exactly Marty Barron. That place is a joke. I actually think that the credit should go to John Stewart of all people who has been making fun of both Fox and CNN for about a decade. And that was before the current Trump circus got started,

These are not news networks. They are entertainment networks.

I actually think that there's an investment angle here. I'm just not quite sure what it is.
