Parsad
AIPAC sides with Omar and Tlaib. I guess AIPAC must hate Jews and Israel too, according to the logic of some who post on here! meiroy
Israel obviously had to follow Trump's "request" as it is currently facing Iranian proxies in three fronts and even Iran directly in Syria, with Russia complicating matters. It needs America. Omar and Tlaib are textbook examples for a certain anti-American and anti-semite way of thinking, though they themselves are probably not aware of it. They grew up in environments (families, friends) that perpetuates it. It can be observed not so much by what they say and the occasional slip of the tongue ("she didn't really mean it"), but what they choose not to say compared to what they say. For example, if you are truly all about "human rights" and "women rights" and so, why are you spending so much time just obsessing about Israel? And no, occasionally mentioning something about Saudi Arabia does not cut it. What happens these days in Syria, is far worse. Female genital mutilation is still a thing in many Muslim countries. What about women rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran or in some Muslim countries in Africa? Homosexuality punished by death (which it does)? Family honor killing of women? And on and on it goes. There are hundreds of millions out there, suffering under such regimes. Why are they only obsessing about Israel, just like the UN does? The answer is obvious. Gregmal
I disagree with the decision. Let them go. But if anything happens, I would expect nothing less from the left, than to continue reiterating that “words and hate speech matter”... If you read into what Omar and Tlaib are saying as you have, then Trump must be Caligula! Cheers!
meiroy
Parsad, No need for whatabouttism, I wrote here clearly, multiple times, what I think about Trump and the GOP. BTW, as a side note, if I'm not mistaken when you look at foreign countries funding of educational institutions in the US, #1 is Qatar and #2 is Saudi Arabia, this is before taking into account money going to "think tanks", lobbyists and straight out bribery etc. So, you get a country like Qatar, which also funds Hamas in Gaza, to influence American universities. No wonder you get a rise of extreme-left educators which manufacture people like these two.
LC
meiroy, let’s be real. Both sides have plied America with money for decades hoping to favor support from the world’s superpower. I also don’t buy your point on their supposedly “unknown” anti-semitism or anti-americanism, I.e by seeing what they don’t say. I mean, I assume you are a white guy. Now when was the last time you personally made a statement condemning slavery? Because I haven’t seen you do so. So shall I infer your “unknowing” racism? I think not. Ilhan Omar addresses this very point:

Ilhan Omar addresses this very point: What do you mean by "both sides"? Do you mean Israel? Do you have any idea how rich Qatar and Saudi Arabia are? And, Israel is a democracy, it does not have any "anti-America" agenda. Qatar has clearly does, and many countries like it do. You completely missed the point. And, again, your second point is meaningless. I'll try to make a clearer example, then. Let's say you are a woman living in America and you are passionate about women rights, or so you say. Then, out of all the countries in the world, you pick Israel and condemn Israel for its women inequality, which is true: women in Israel are free to lead the country, free to travel, free to wear what they want etc. but of course it's not perfect (I'm guessing here, for the sake of the example.) Now, you obsess about women inequality in Israel, and every half-moon maybe mentions something about another country. You also plan to travel to Israel to inspect and support women rights organizations. At the same time, women population, a 100,000 bigger than in Israel, is truly suffering discrimination and abuse in other countries, but you don't say much about that. Do you get it now? cubsfan
Why in the world would Israel want these 2 losers to visit their country? Both of them are anti-Semitic and support a total boycott of Israel - which is a legitimate threat to the survival of the world's only Jewish state. Neither one of these disgraces for Congress have kept any of this a secret. And now we're surprised that they are not "welcome" in a country they wish does not exist. How often do any of you make it a practice to invite your enemies that HATE you into your home?
meiroy
Last but not least I want to make a very important point here. This obsession with Israel and anti-American agenda, blaming it for everything and anything, is partially the reason why year after year, decade after decade, human-rights conditions and progress does not improve in many of these Muslim countries. Their autocratic regimes use it to deflect any blame from themselves, and their population is brainwashed to support this view. With their misplaced obsession, Omar and Tlaib condemn hundreds of millions of people to continue living in such conditions.

LC
Yes I was referring to Israel. The amount of money that has flowed and does flow from US to Israel is incredible. To say it’s only Muslim countries trying to use America for their advantage is wrong. As to your second point, no I still don’t buy it. Their primary criticism of Israel is not about women’s rights but about Israel’s military occupations. And hell, she’s free to criticize whoever she wants. Including Muslim countries (which she has done) and Jewish countries (which she has done). Also isn’t she on the House foreign affairs committee? It’s her damn job to visit foreign war zones. Their primary criticism of Israel is not about women’s rights but about Israel’s military occupations. This is actually funny - since, for years, Israel has attempted to work with the Palestinians for the last 20/30 years to GIVE THEM BACK their territories in EXCHANGE for peace... Of course, when pressed, the various terrorist groups that rule the Palestinians (particularly Hamas) have absolutely refused ANY such conditions. The position of Hamas, for YEARS, has been - a dedication to the destruction of Israel - regardless of territorial concessions.
LC
How often do any of you make it a practice to invite your enemies that HATE you into your home? Sanjeev has a better reply but in all seriousness it’s called diplomacy. In fact only under authoritarian regimes would this nonsense fly. Amongst democracies and republics, representatives from other countries should be allowed access. This is why the US has embassies from China, Russia, the Saudis, etc. all blocks away from the White House.

You are absolutely right she is free to say whatever she wants, and this exact *CHOICE* clearly shows her anti-American and anti-Semitism bias as I have explained above. You are not consistent with your arguments. I'm ending it here.

LC
Yes meiroy I am well aware there only one “Jewish country”. The language is consistent to illustrate both congresswomen have levied criticism towards both sides, hence not anti-Semitic. Authoritarians and totalitarians never seem to understand the why it is healthy to criticize inequality regardless if the culprit is your friend or even yourself, to “invite enemies into your home”, and that the dissenting voice must be allowed to speak unencumbered. However, Israel is in war with Iran and it seems they put their security first as it depends on Trump. They will pay for it politically. I can't say if this is the correct choice or not but this seems to be the reasoning.

The public has a right to know her opinion on certain matters especially since she has NOT been clear about it. If "voting on bills" is good enough for her opinion/stance then why is Trump being investigated for Russia when he has put all kinds of sanctions on them? "The assumption exists that somehow we support and are for..." Does she not make assumptions about white males, Jews, and Christians? "How often should I make this schedule.....so today I forgot to condemn blah blah blah" How many times do Republicans and leaders take flak for not "properly" condemning the mass shootings or anything else that happens? She's often first in line to say something to republicans asking them to condemn white supremacy or shootings!

cubsfan
The Palestinian Authority has always been weak, corrupt and inept. You have Hamas that controls Gaza and Fatah that has heaviest influence in the West Bank. With those terrorist organizations corrupting the PLO - the Palestinian leadership has made it clear they won't accept the legitamacy of the Jewish state. Now you have these 2 congress ladies on a rogue mission that does NOT represent the views of the US States Government with their visit to Palestine. You call that diplomacy? How does this benefit Israel? Why should the Israelis allow it? They want to further the boycott of Israel cause - which threatens the Jewish state.
