Castanza
Anyone on here from or live in Hong Kong? Hope you all are safe over there. Things seem to be getting worse from the outside perspective looking in. LC
That is incredibly volatile. I hope for the sake of that country and its people that they can root out these authoritarian goons.

Visited once back in college. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jul/22/where-were-the-police-hong-kong-outcry-after-masked-thugs-launch-attack Considering how massive the protests are and the level of animosity, it is almost tame compared to the things we see in the U.S. I'm not saying any amount of violence is good or anything but I commend them keeping up the fight... (I have huge extended family in HK and mainland China.)

The "country" is gone forever. These battles might be won or lost but it won't make a difference in the long run. The war is over already. The Hong Kongese people can only hope to delay the inevitable. (This is all my opinion. I'm no expert in anything.)

China has learned not to use force until necessary, and at the moment, they want to come to reasonable terms with the populace...but civil liberties and independence have been gone for well over a decade now. Power, money, everything is on the Mainland now...Hong Kong is a dying bastion whose best days are behind it now. And to make it worse, Hong Kong will get no sympathy from Mainlander chinese who think the old guard is just bourgeoisie. The noveau riche are the Mainlanders...grew up under Communism, had to fight for every scrap they have now and are looked down upon by the old Hong Kong money. Those dual passport astronauts are going to be getting a good workout in HK! Cheers!
LC
The continued stories coming out of HK are gruesome. For those interested in supporting the HK protesters, here is a good resource (has specifics for residents of US/CA/EU/etc.): https://github.com/hongkonggong/beyond-lennon-walls/blob/master/README.md
