Ban Electronic Stores Due To Some People Don't Have a Bank Account

There are 3 major cities banning cashless stores (such as Amazon Go) because it discriminates against people that don't have a bank account. By that logic, why don't we ban Prada stores, Coach, Ferrari dealerships? What kind of logic is this?

Why don't these legislators create a program or provide tax breaks to help people get a bank account. Some people, unfortunately, don't want to be helped, but, there are some that do want help and I feel bad for them, but this is ridiculous to ban a store because less than 10% of the country won't be able to utilize it.

I don't know about the US, but in Canada we have legal tender laws. Currency (cash) is legal tender. If I give it to you, you have to accept it as payment by law. I suspect there is something similar in the US.

I haven't shopped much at Ferrari, but I'm pretty sure that Prada and Coach take cash.

Private businesses can set their own payment requirements. Gov't shouldn't be involved. Vote with your wallet and take your business elsewhere. It's as simple as that.

I believe "legal tender" only means that it must be accepted by creditors to repay existing debts.  Terms of payment at a store are up to mutual agreement of buyer and seller. Plenty of stores in Canada refuse certain denominations of bills (legal tender) due to counterfeiting concerns.  It's likely exactly the same in the US.

People without a bank account could use something like the Cash App.  Or they could just go and open up a bank account.  Sure you have to have money to fund the Cash App with or to open a bank account, but you have to have money to shop at a store too.

Probably more to do with the elimination of cashier jobs, then with cash-less transactions themselves.  We're seeing a lot of complaints in Canada about how brick and mortar stores are pushing customers heavily to use self-checkouts...even not providing at least one cashier-manned lane during non-peak hours.  Like ATM's, people didn't like them in the beginning, but 90% of customers use them now...no benefits, they run 24 hours a day, don't call in sick or go on vacation.  I watch people with a couple of items run to the cashier-less lanes now, because the cashier-manned lanes are bogged down with people with carts.  It will be commonly used faster than ATM's were.  Cheers!
