rkbabang
Interesting story. I didn't know whether to post this in the General category, the Berkshire category, or here in Politics. Howard Buffett's Border War: A Billionaire's Son Is Spending Millions in Cochise County "Over the past several years, 64-year-old Howard Buffett — using wealth supplied by his father — has been waging his own border war in Cochise County. This has included the arming of a private volunteer group, importing privately employed enforcement personnel, and funding the chemical defoliation of a substantial portion of the county’s border with Mexico." "... has also provided the sheriff’s office with at least three helicopters." "In 2014, Buffett funding purchased at least 120 Glock 21 .45 caliber semiautomatic pistols for the agency." "CCSO records also show that Buffett has engaged in road patrols of Cochise County, where he has conducted stops of motorists. For example, records dated August 26, 2016, list Buffett as the “responsible officer” in four traffic stops, but state no cause for the stops. Other records indicate that between 2013 and February 2016, Buffet spent 639 hours on “duty” with CCSO. These hours were also spent on activities such as “border patrol,” “independent patrol,” or helicopter patrol."

LC
One of the oddest things I've read recently...thanks for posting. Also interesting is how Warren funnels tons of money to his kids charities.... The sole financial underwriter of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation is Warren Buffett, who donates roughly $150 million to $180 million to his son’s charity annually, according to tax records. So much for "make it on their own". ::)

Well technically he isn't giving it to him, but to his foundation. But I guess that's sort of like people giving to the Clinton Foundation, it amounts to the same thing. LC
Or anyone's foundation. As far as I know (and I'm no expert in non profit law) - but there is no legal requirement as to what Howard Buffett must spend the foundation's money on. Just another scam to move money around tax free.

Cardboard
What you just wrote Parsad is irrational: "Like most rational people, he's for tighter security, investments in Mexico and further, and not money wasted on a wall." How do you implement tighter security without any form of physical barrier? I mean, we have prisons, we have a DMZ between South and North Korea, we had the Berlin wall, we have the Great Wall of China. All these things have something in common or a first layer preventing you to go through and tested throughout history. Do we really have to reinvent the wheel? Now, are we going to defend this Howard Buffett who does vigilante at night with a private army because he is Buffett's son? What is he trying to do exactly? Scare trespassers with a few shots in the air or he aims straight at them? Completely retarded! If you want tighter security, you put up a physical barrier (wall, barb wire, fence, whatever), then you patrol with armed officers assisted by drones and electronic security who have the means and law on their side to arrest and deport. Gregmal
Warren was a Republican for a long time. His father was a Republican. It's no shock his son is. Interestingly enough, I tend to think there is a correlation between Warrens increasingly liberal views, and his increasingly uninspiring investment results.
