Canada may slap their own sanctions on Saudis

http://www.cnbc.com/id/105577298

Happily sanction the Saudis and Turdo lecture the Chinese on muslim treatment.

Then these two idiots seek more oil from far flung places equivalent to Saudi Arabia on women treatment and more trade from China!

Makes up for good headlines on human rights but, gosh are we led by idiots in Canada!

I do not like it when Canada publicly lectures foreign governments on what it considers to be acceptable behavior. There are so many bad actors out there (Saudi’s or Chinese in Tibet are just teo of many, many bad situations). We are a small country and defintely not the tail that wags the dog when ot comes to international relations. There are lots of ways to exert influence behind the scenes that will likely be more effective.

The only benefit i see to publicly outing a foreign governement is to appease a group in Canada. And usually afterwards the other country hammers and we run home with tail between out legs (with our feelings hurt).

Trudeau should spend more time on running Canada... like finding a way for Alberta to get their oil to market. Easier to publicly lecture the Saudi’s (and makes for much better press).

Love you Viking!

But, you see a high school drama teacher who was pampered all his life and never really had to earn a real living can't figure out these things.

Funny we have these people on this website so opposed to generational wealth transfer and income inequality but, happily voting for such people.

It's funny you mention this, but the biggest group of hypocrites I've met in my life, the majority happen to have jobs in finance or real estate, got their wealth from mom and dad. Yes I know, Trump fits this too. But, gosh, if I had a penny for every shitbag liberal millennial I've run into in their "family office" in midtown who plays the "philanthropist" card cuz dad does, and walk and talks the liberal elite game, but personally plays all the "dirty republican" cards when it comes to paying taxes or giving away "their fair share of dad's wealth", ugh, I'd be rich.

Every system of government yet developed by man has been a filter which selects for the most power hungry individuals in society for leadership roles.  In a democracy not only does it select for those hungry for power over others, but it further selects for those who look good and speak convincingly (i.e. psychopaths and con men).  What it doesn't select for are qualities like compassion, competence, knowledge of economics, or raw intelligence.    So Yes you are more than likely ruled by idiots, we all are.

Yes, that is true. ironically the best leaders might be those who don’t want to wield power.

Yea, why should anybody care about human rights? It's not like it's anything important or anything like that. Regan must have been off his med when he was asking "Mr Gorbachev Tear Down This Wall!" Or maybe he had nothing better to do that day. Who knows.

Also the idea that a government cannot denounce human rights violations and work toward development of pipelines is laughable.

Also since I know that pipelines is a topic near and dear to many here I'd like to point out that conservatives fucked up prospects of pipelines pretty good. I'm not talking about political operatives. But also principals of the oil industry and pipeline operators - which let's face it belong to conservative side. If they want pipelines they better wake up and realize that they need to operate differently.

"Also the idea that a government cannot denounce human rights violations and work toward development of pipelines is laughable."

The thing is that it doesn't work toward development of pipelines.

It is more concerned with image than economic reality. It believes that constraining 3% of worldwide production will be a huge step forward to reduce fossil fuel use while it grows by that much every 2 years!

"If they want pipelines they better wake up and realize that they need to operate differently."

Oh yeah, more consultations, Bill 69 and the like.

In other words, pipelines won't get built no matter what OR hand us out the project and so much money that we may say yes.

Now, I will say this. Revolutions and wars don't arise out of economic prosperity.

We'd be better off moving to a system where political positions are more like jury duty.  Picked at random from everyone who is eligible (US citizen, over a certain age).
