Identity Politics (what used to be called simply "racism")

We now have leftist politicians taking DNA tests to prove their racial purity.

It's taking identity politics to its logical conclusion I guess, but it is still pretty damn sick if you ask me. If your self worth is tied to your 1/1024 Native American DNA you are pretty empty inside. And you are every bit as hateful a person as a white supremacist neo-nazi who would take pride in his percentage of northern European DNA.  Racism is largely a thing of the left today, on the right it has been relegated to the margins. Small groups who no one takes seriously.  On the left it is the mainstream, up to and including sitting US Senators.

Now the Republicans think it's a contest.  US politics is in a bad place right now.  Oh, well. Let the Racists DNA Competitions begin!

It would be more constructive to know what the people one are supposed to vote for are standing for, rather than their racial bankground or skin color.

Yea but Obama, an inexperienced junior senator from a shithole area proved that the above doesn't matter. Instead he proved being the liberal trophy black was all that was needed. And in response this is what led to Trump. The left has become obsessed with political statement trophies, such as "the first black", "the first women", "the first ....Indian?". I mean why else would they think Hillary Clinton was a good idea? They care more about a figurehead statement, so they can tout progress, than they actually care about substantive and tangible progress. It's a shame.

I'd love to see politics shifts towards running people of character and substance; but that isn't happening anytime soon. Instead we have the likes of Booker, Warren, and the double trophy Koomalo Harris to look forward to.

People of character and substance are off doing useful things, not running for office.  This is just the latest act in reality show we call politics.

Is Hawaii the shithole or Illinois?

I thought it was Africa according to Trump!  Cheers!

Africa and Haiti are "shithole nations" according to Trump.  I live in New Hampshire which is a "drug-infested den".  You have to admit the man has a way with words.

Yes, he uses only the best words.

It was funny though, when I asked my wife at the time if she heard what Trump called New Hampshire, she laughed and said "He's not completely wrong though".  I couldn't argue.  For a small state we've got a lot of overdose deaths.  We are 3rd in the nation for overdose death rate (West Virginia and Ohio are the top 2).

I've never been to Africa or Haiti, so I won't comment on his eloquent and detailed analysis of the quality of those locations.

We have alot of overdose deaths in Vancouver as well.  It doesn't make Vancouver a drug infested den.  In fact, Vancouver is one of the most livable and beautiful cities in the world.  Wasn't New York a drug infested den in the 70's and early 80's?

Regional problems can be cyclical...economy-related...due to neglect by government...it's generally not permanent if attention is given at some point.  But it doesn't happen solely through social intervention or locking people up.  It's more complex than someone like Trump makes it.  Cheers!

Of course, I'm just saying that many gross over-generalizations have some small grain of truth to them.

  • 3 weeks later...

Also, on the topic of identity politics, I find it interesting that 87% of the GOP candidates in the house  are white males. The approx percentage of white males in the pollution is 31%.

http://www.dailyjournal.net/2018/11/01/us-election-2018-diversity-divide-2/

Just like with becoming a judge, the path to Washington heavily favors wealthy white people. It's not just a GOP thing. It's partially a "male" thing, but just look at the Feinsteins and Gillebrands of the world too. Normal people are too busy with their lives to waste time trying to become a politician. It's a hobby with a call option for privileged white people. Even many of the minorities you see succeeding, are only doing so with funding help from, get this, the privileged white folks.

I was watching my local ABC affiliate, because I was interested in the local races, but they went to the national ABC coverage most of the time.  It sickened me how all they wanted to talk about was how in this race the person is gay and in that one the person is black and in another one it is two women facing off against each other, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseam, ad infinitum.

And having been a women in the military...

Amazing to me how little is spent on understanding one's ability to deliver for people voting for them.

I have worked with great people and also really bad people. However, I could not identify any correlation related to gender, race or religion. Sense of ownership, leadership, good work ethics, proper values have nothing to do with what the left is trying to point out.

A normal distribution was really what stood out to me.

These people are running for political office to decide on budgets and taxes and war.  What do they stand for?  What will they do?  To listen to the media the only things we should care about, in fact the only important things about any of them at all is their race, gender, ancestors(i.e. genetic make up), skin color, religion, and sexual preferences.  Call me crazy, but I find those things to be the least important information to know about elected officials.  And caring about any of that at all makes you a bigot of one stripe or another as far as I am concerned.

Thanks cubsfan. I always learn from your unique contributions.

As a background check, did some research on the Steamboat Institute. They have sound principles. And some of their previous conference speakers are from the Cheney family (Dick and others).

In the ever rising distance in the bimodal right and left distribution, I always try to look for balancing evidence and have a feeling that the following movie will be enlightening:

Watching the video you submitted, I came away with two thoughts and perhaps a realization for the need of more common grounds.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

"All vices are equal, but some vices are more dangerous than others."

Thanks Cigarbutt - I consider it a real complement coming from you.

I am going to catch that movie - I can't believe that is Christian Bale - incredible!

BTW - Victor David Hanson is really worth studying. I always loved Charles Krauthammer - someone who could cut through

all the politics and get to real meaning of what is going on. I really miss Charles, what a loss.

Anyway - VDH is my new Krauthammer - a really great mind.

Start at 3:20 minute.

Easy enough to watch in sections.

This is what confounds me about Trump supporters. I mostly agree with what the guy in your video said, and in fact I'll one-up you with one of my favs:

But Trump only parrots these words. His actions are not aligned.

Yes he cut taxes, but he didn't cut any spending and he's imposed tariffs, which are taxes. And since he didn't cut spending, we're piling up debt, which will ultimately lead to inflation, which is yet another tax. I don't know what the Trump supporter's defense is to this - and let me remind you that his economic advisor quit over the stupidity of this policy.

What about individual liberties? He's strong on gun control, but what about the LGBT community? He's just absolutely hanging them out to dry on the freedoms that they've managed to gain. Trump supporters are good with this. Why? Family values? Do we even need to go into family values and Trump? It's nonsense.

Comparative advantage - his immigration policy is preposterous. Set aside low-wage/border policy for a moment. He wants to cut and restrict h1b visas across the board. I work in the software industry. We DESPERATELY need foreign workers to maintain our competitive advantage because there are simply not enough Americans graduating with computer science degrees. He wants to stop this. He, like all other sh*tty politicians, needs to stay the f*ck out of it, because he doesn't know what he's doing. And what he's done and is doing on the border is sickening and dumb. How many legit people do you know in this 3.5% unemployment-rate-economy that pick fruit for a living? We need people to come do that. Americans are not doing it. I'm all for setting up a secure and sensible process for that, but please be real about it. We need it. Americans won't do it unless it pays A LOT more, which would just translate into increased prices, etc.

On top of all of that he's shady and awful. Many of the closest people to him are bonafide criminals. The likelihood that he too is a criminal seems pretty high. From his actions, it's crystal clear that he's in Putin's pocket. It's endangering the security of our nation and our allies, and if you've been paying attention you should have seen by now that both Trump and Putin are taking this to the level of nuclear bombs. Putin wants to make more bombs, and Trump is enabling it. But ya know - own the libz, I guess.

We're not so different in ideology. Perhaps I just hate politicians so much that I will not align myself with any of them? Now I'm rambling. I'm glad there is now a check on Trump. I am all about Liberty and Freedom, but this President is not, and if we continue in this direction our country will look more and more like Russia, a corrupt kleptocracy.

I tried but sorry when he pulled some story out of his @ss about his developer friend confirming that Trump talks to cement workers on his RE developments, and when people see him on the street they cheer and clap, it's just a boldfaced lie.
