Buckeye
I'll admit that I rarely, if ever, post on the COBF forums, as I mostly come here to learn from other members about investing and businesses. However, it seems as though the politics sections has really sucked up a lot of the soul of this forum and diminished the sense of community that made this site great. I understand that I can just ignore the politics section but it seems nowadays that the recent posts homepage is nearly 75% politics, which makes it hard to ignore. Anyone else agree that we should consider doing away with with the Politics section and let those posters find another forum? SHDL
I somewhat agree. I actually finally joined the forum today after years of lurking just to check the "ignore" box on the politics section. (But then I somehow ended up posting my first message there. Ha ha.) On the other hand policies do matter for investing and gauging sentiments on that front there may be helpful for some.
boilermaker75
If there was not a politics section, these threads would get started in other sections. Not a perfect solution but at least they are contained.
cubsfan
You can always ask Parsad to just eliminate the Politics section altogether - I'd be fine with that.

Thank you.

bookie71
Maybe a button to ignore a discussion would help solve the problem.
maxthetrade
Anyone else agree that we should consider doing away with with the Politics section and let those posters find another forum? Buckeye +1 I still remember the old Yahoo Board, it was great until political and religious topics ruined it. I completely agree that it would best for this forum to avoid those topics. augustabound
I actually finally joined the forum today after years of lurking just to check the "ignore" box on the politics section. Thanks for this, I had no idea you could ignore a section of the board. I've read a few people say things like, "you have an ignore button" the few times people complained about the politics section. But I assumed they were talking about ignoring a specific user.
SharperDingaan
Just drop the section for 3 months and see how it goes. If civility returns great, if it doesn't - reopen the politics section in some other site. SD
Parsad
You can ignore posters and boards as you wish...so you already have that option. Eliminating the Politics board would only move these discussions into the General Discussion board, where I would be spending a couple of hours a day monitoring posts and deleting them. I don't have to do much policing, because these discussions are kept where they should be. Yes, politics can become heated and annoying, but you have the option of ignoring it. And those posting in that section, always have the option of calming down and avoiding conflict for a day or two to reduce tensions. But eliminating the board won't eliminate the problem...it will just seep into other areas that don't have this problem presently. Cheers!
