Tillerson is Out

Recommended Posts

Apparently John Kelly phoned Tillerson on Friday, told him something was up and to watch Twitter, then Trump fired him via tweet.

Today Tillerson gave a press conference stating he would be gone by midnight March 31st.

Pretty crazy ... he gave up his position at Exxon plus all future potential earnings from working in the oil industry to get treated like that.

Pardon me for being optimistic here.

At the end of the day, ignoring all the news and talking heads, so what?  Did the U.S.A. crash and fail in any way so far? Is the economy in the dumpster?  Are people hungry for food? What?

This is a testament to the U.S.A.'s structural strength.    It will come out of this stronger and better.  Trump will be replaced.  Another idiot will take his place. The system will continue to work.

Even more optimistically, (hey I'm an investor, what can I say...) this might wake up the public to the fact that the world is changing and some things will have to change with it.  Better sooner than later.

That just goes to show you how much smarter Jamie Dimon is compared to these other fools given he decided to stay far away from this clown show.

I'm in JPM because of Dimon.  The day he announces leaving I would sell.  Still holding on GS.

I agree and try to tell this to my folks at home in Germany. The USA is very hard to really screw up, Trump changes his direction quicker than I change my underwear, so most plans amount to nothing. The Tax cuts stick and probably do some real good. The stupid stuff never gets done because of the above.

Don't underestimate Donald Trump like so many did before.  If anyone can screw up the USA, he is probably the one....

Tillerson should run for office. I'd vote for him, if I were American.

Based on what? His masterful management of the state department?

Based on the fact that he has experience as the CEO of a multinational that operates globally.

So that's all it takes?

Guess you'd love voting for Howard Schultz. Jeff Immlet and Chuck Prince should be fine candidates too. How do you feel about Bernie Ebbers?

So I'm on business here in Irving and drove by XOMs headquarters, does anyone think Tillerson is kicking himself for stepping down from a 20MM gig for a brief position as SoS? I'm not sure if he's aiming for a career in politics, but if not, I would think the move he made was a net negative.

T-Rex currently has a 5 pound hammer in the employment of hitting his balls.

He had a cushy gig and now he's done. No large and respectable company will hire him. He could try to run for office but he'd loose. Rukawa would vote for him, but I think he's Canadian so that won't help him much. Based on what I've read, I think that personally he's a pretty decent guy. So I wouldn't be surprised if he bows out and retires with whatever dignity and honor he has left.

Exxon has a mandatory retirement age of 65. Tillerson turned 65 on March 23, 2017. He was all set to retire *before* Trump offered him the job.

Here's his interview from March 2017, after two months on the job:

So why, then, did he want the gig?

“I didn’t want this job. I didn’t seek this job.” He paused to let that sink in.

A beat or two passed before an aide piped up to ask him why he said yes.

“My wife told me I’m supposed to do this.”

<snip>

With a half-worn smile, he said, “I was supposed to retire in March, this month. I was going to go to the ranch to be with my grandkids.”

Tillerson has already more money than he needs and more than RB, Elig and a few more similar morons will ever have.

Cardboard

And that means what exactly? I mean besides you trying to be crass and offensive?

Well shit, dude seems like he wanted to retire to the ranch with his grand kids and was kind of manipulated into taking this position:

“My wife told me I’m supposed to do this.”

After watching the contortions of my face as I tried to figure out what to say next, he humbly explained that he had never met the president before the election. As president-elect, Trump wanted to have a conversation with Tillerson “about the world” given what he gleaned from the complex global issues he dealt with as CEO of ExxonMobil.

“When he asked me at the end of that conversation to be secretary of state, I was stunned.”

When Tillerson got home and told his wife, Renda St. Clair, she shook her finger in his face and said, “I told you God’s not through with you.”

I mean, this shouldn't be funny, but it sadly is. Some old CEO just wants to retire and spend some time with the fam but gets called up into one final mission by the Orangutan, and then his own wife, who drops the Almighty Argument (and presumably the sweet baby Hesus), and this dude can't muster the gumption to say "fuck off"!

disclaimer: i'm like 6 whiskeys in. texas is taking its hold.

Then gets fired via tweet while on the can. You literally can't make this stuff up.
