Trust Him...He's a Really Smart Person!

It's OK to be smart if you're humble about it. Which he certainly is:

LOL.  Myself, I think humility is overrated. If someone told me that I'm not known for being humble, I'd say "damn straight I'm not", but based on that video I'm not sure Trump even knows what the word "humble" means.

People who think they know it all are extremely annoying to those of us who actually do.

I understand that the post is intended for thought (?) provocation.

Part of this is entertainment, as always.

Objectively though, and trying to put emotions aside, there is the possibility that President Trump is a six-sigma smart person.

Isn’t this possibility and associated potential outcomes what Mr. Market and some well known investors base their investment theses on?

Yes, I, and others, have been having fun with this topic, but you are correct.  He could actually be somewhat intelligent.  He is not well spoken though and he doesn't seem to have a large vocabulary (to say the least).  We can't do an IQ test on everyone we meet, so how someone speaks is often what we use as a quick and dirty indicator of their overall intelligence.  It is often an accurate metric to use, but not always.  There are people who are intelligent in many ways who, for whatever reason, don't sound it when they speak.  There are also people who don't speak well off the cuff, and this is certainly true of Trump.  The opposite can also be true, there are people who know how to sound smart but aren't.  Many politicians fall into that category since the ability to speak well is usually the main requirement for the job.

Keeping in mind the potential intent of the post, there is an interesting opportunity to underline the disadvantages of black and white thinking.

There are many dimensions to intelligence.

2 sentences.

1-Somebody is intelligent.

2-Somebody says he's intelligent.

Not the same but not mutually exclusive.

Donald Trump has been elected and that should be, whatever political inclination or ideology, an inspiration for introspection.

2 sentences.

1-Intelligence can help to reach goals.

2-Which goals needs to be defined.

Let's work on the definitions.

Yep, that possibility is 9.866x10^(-10) tough empirical evidence should lower that possibility some.

Now, what's the possibility that he's a moron?

Trump's clearly not that smart and has very little intellectual curiosity. Probably somewhere around average.

Those who think he's smart mistake monetary success with intelligence. It's a very common mistake.

Most of his success come from some of his non-intelligence related characteristics, which he possesses in a combination and magnitude that make him clearly an outlier (lack of any shame, very high level of narcissism and self-promotion/personal branding, hyperactive bullshitting and no attachement to facts, no qualms about using people as long as they're useful and discarding them and blaming them as soon as they aren't, ability to identify people's emotional buttons, mostly fear and greed, and repeat simple and memorable triggers for them over and over and over, playing a character that approximates what the average person thinks a successful businessman is like, etc).

He's not a six-sigma person.  He's an effing moron like Tillerson said.

But he does fall into Buffett's commentary in the past about being wired for a specific environment.  Trump, with his narcissistic personality disorder, surprisingly, is wired well for the environment he was brought up in.

He knew what he wanted.  He knew to take advantage of his wealthy upbringing.  He knows when to lie and how to tell a good story.  He is excellent at branding himself and marketing to his base.  And he knows how to leverage his wealth and power, even if that means debasing others to make himself look better.  I'm sure there are many other attributes that have served him well over the years...but intelligence is not one of them!

Cheers!

Trump isn't as bad (or as good) as most folks think (ie when liberals are going ballistic or conservatives are getting Trump tattoos).

CNN though?

Even other liberal sites hate on cnn:

I was a staunch Bernie Sanders supporter but decided to look more into "fake news." There is an element of truth in the bias argument.

There is a real risk of looking like Linsday Lohan trying to defend Harvey Weinstein here. But worth the try for this post...and others.

To treat others with respect and dignity is the objective even when you disagree.

The political (and general on-line discussion) environment has shown a tendency to polarization and hostility.

To focus on negatives of opposing views will promote that. Should we not try to build bridges, reach for compromises?

Disclosure: from Canada, but would have voted Republican in all previous elections except the last one. But that's beside the point.

Probably many Americans voted for Mr. Trump for the "wrong" reasons. But it was not a coup d'état. He was elected. Somehow, a large enough segment of the population identified with the message. One may disagree with the modus operandi but playing the game at the same level may fail to achieve objectives. I submit that Paul Ryan expressed that well in the early days of the presidency.

The difference between publicly calling the elected president as not intelligent and others, and calling those who voted for him as deplorables is tenuous.

Like it or not, the elected president is a reflection of our institutions and a reflection of the People.

If you disagree with the present result (with respect, I am one of them), time may better spent on ideas and themes that have the potential to bring us together. Intelligence and respect required.

I don't know. Personally, once someone shows they're pathological liars, racists and a sexual abusers, I kind of write them off.

While I don't disagree, I don't think the Clintons are much better.

For what it's worth, I didn't vote for Trump (or anyone else for that matter).

The President Orangutan already alluding to pulling FEMA from Puerto Rico:

Here's a comment from someone living in PR:

As a Puertorican living trough this, F**k you trump.

First he comes here in the f**king presidential plane with all the commodities one could think off and instead of going to most affected area he goes to a rich neighborhood and trows f**king papers towels like its a f**king concert.

Our lives right now consist in planing trips to get water, since theres no running water in our homes. We’re pitch black at night, at the mercy of thieves and people with bad thoughts since theres no electricity or cell phone signal. So if something happens to you though luck.

So far 10 people have died from drinking river water, its a dam shame that 3.5 million Americans don’t have access to drinking water, let get this straight: Americans are dead because that dint have access to clean drinking water, like in 3rd world countries. This on the American government, they could invade the island in the 1800s, they can invade the fucking Middle East like its nobody’s business but they can’t help fellow Americans get drinking water.

Supermarkets have hour long lines and we you get in its almost empty, theres only rice and canned food. Im not complaining, it’s something to eat, but seeing this orange clown saying he’s going to pull FEMA when theres nearly no food on the supermarkets its hearth breaking.

Just yesterday I caught my neighbors crying because they lost their roof since Maria, FEMA tarps are nowhere to be seen and what little they had left got wet again, for the 4th time since the hurricane. I had to give them shelter since they had nowhere dry to stay.

Theres still people with no communication with the outside world because of road collapses, this means no access to food, clean water, meds, first aid, doctors, pampers, formula. They’re on their own if FEMA pulls out.

F**k Trump, you’re a disgrace to America, you come here say having 16 dead is something to be proud about, say the budget is out whack and trow paper towel like its a fucking festival and everything is ok, the deed is done. He gave aid! HE GAVE FUCKING PAPER TOWELS SO PACK UP BOYS THE JOB IS DONE! MAGA!

Also! He dedicated his trophy to us! I feel so good! I might no have drinking water next week but I have a trophy dedication!

Time to go.

15+ years is fine for Afghanistan, but Puerto Rico, well, a few week's enough... According to Trump, they deserved it anyway.

And I thought Bush bungled the Katrina response...
